Masters Direct Entry (MDE, MDE/DNP, MDE/PhD)

For Non-Nursing College Graduates

Program Overview

The Masters Direct Entry (MDE) program is a full-time accelerated nursing program that offers basic competence in professional nursing and generalized master’s coursework. For more information about the Masters Direct Entry, please visit the academic program page

The program may be coupled with one of the doctorate programs, the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). There are three application options:

 

Masters Direct Entry (MDE) Only

  • Program Length: 15 months
  • Degree Awarded: Master of Science (MS)
  • Eligibility for RN licensure after successful completion of the program

Masters Direct Entry/Doctor of Nursing Practice (MDE/DNP)

  • Program Length: 4 years combined (15 months MDE + 3 years DNP)
  • MDE Program
    • Degree Awarded: Master of Science (MS)
    • Eligibility for RN licensure after successful completion of the program
  • DNP Program
    • Degree Awarded: Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
    • Eligibility for APRN licensure after successful completion of the program

Masters Direct Entry/Doctor of Philosophy (MDE/PhD)

  • Program Length: 4-5 years combined (15 months MDE + 3-4 years PhD)
  • MDE Program
    • Degree Awarded: Master of Science (MS)
    • Eligibility for RN licensure after successful completion of the program
  • PhD Program
    • Degrees Awarded: M.Phil (during PhD program) and PhD

Tuition and Fees

Admission Criteria

  • Bachelor's Degree (in a discipline other than nursing from an accredited college or university)
  • GPA: We do not have a minimum GPA requirement for admission into the MDE program

Prerequisite Courses

In addition to a bachelor's degree in a non-nursing field, applicants must complete prerequisite coursework for an accredited college or university. It is required that completed courses have a grade of a B or better.

  • Psychology (Intro/Developmental/Lifespan)
  • Statistics (completed within five years of the start term of the MDE program)
  • Human Anatomy or Human Anatomy & Physiology I
  • Human Physiology or Human Anatomy & Physiology II
  • Microbiology
  • Nutrition
  • International Applicants Only: English Composition, or a course listed as a writing intensive
