7. Notable PHS 398 Revisions
There have recently been several notable revisions to the PHS 398 application which affect all future NIH grant applications to be submitted using the PHS 398 forms:
- Application cover letters at the time of the submission may be used to identify Institutes/Centers at NIH or other non-NIH agencies AND to identify a Scientific Review Group that might be appropriate for an application to be assigned to
- NIH now requires the use of an Arial, Helvetica, Palatino Linotype or Georgia typeface and a font size of 11 points or larger. Figures, charts, tables, etc., may continue to use a smaller font size, but must use of these font typefaces.
- Appendix materials can now be two-sided as appropriate
