10. Continuing Education and Training Courses
- The Office of Research Resources is offering the following spring semester continuing education course:
“Overview of NIH Award Mechanisms” on April 19, 2005 from 12:30pm – 1:30pm in the 1st Floor Student Lounge of the School of
Nursing. This course is open to all faculty, staff, and students. Co-sponsored by The Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Antimicrobial Resistance.
- Research Training: Preparing Nurse Scientistsis
a FREE online course offered by the NINR. Previously, there has been a 3-1/2 day in-residence course on the
campus of the NIH. The content of the course is now provided via the web and supplemented by videotapes. This online course
provides 5 contact hours through the Maryland Nurses Association. The online portion of the course is free, and there are also
instructions to purchase the videotapes.

- The Columbia University Academic Information
Systems (AIS) computer workshops for Spring 2005 include:
- Courses on the research software, NVIVO, including NVIVO I: importing documents and setting up codes, and NVIVO II:
searching and reporting on coded data
- Courses on web publishing, designing, and graphics; internet and e-mail; and the UNIX system

- Responsible Conduct of Research and Related Policy Issues – A series of 11 sessions throughout the spring semester of 2005. Sessions run January – May and are held in Room 301 of the Hammer Health Sciences Center on Fridays from 1:00pm – 2:00pm .
- The Columbia University Health Sciences Library software workshops for Spring 2005 include courses on Endnotes, Evidence Based Practice, Powerpoint II, Photoshop 1&2, and Web of Science (literature search database). These courses are FREE to Columbia faculty, staff, and students.
- The Columbia University Human Resources Office Spring 2005 Management & Professional Development Program includes courses on:
- Professional Development – Communication, Administrative, Project Management, Supervisory Essentials
- Executive Development – Communication and Influence, Finance and Accounting, Leadership, Project Management
- Brown Bag Workshops and Other Programs
