Program Overview

The PhD is a 3-4 year program that provides a strong foundation in nursing science and research methods, enabling graduates to conduct evidence-based research independently and as part of interdisciplinary teams. Tuition and Fees

Admission Criteria

  • The PhD program admits applicants who have either of the following degrees in Nursing:
    • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Nursing 
      • Note: Applicants currently enrolled in a Master's Degree program who are nearing completion of their program can apply to the PhD program. If admitted, accepted applicants may enroll in doctoral courses concurrently while completing their program or defer their enrollment to the PhD program for one year.
    • Master's Degree in a related discipline (i.e. MBA or MPH) and a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
      • Note: Admitted applicants may be required to enroll in additional nursing credits to ensure adequate preparation.
  • New York State RN Licensure or Eligibility
  • GPA: We do not have a minimum GPA for admission into the program
  • GRE Exam Scores
    • Columbia Nursing does not have a minimum GRE score requirement and is considered a part of the composite academic profile. Applicants are required to submit their GRE scores by the application deadline. 
    • GRE scores can be sent officially to the Office of Admissions to the school code 2142.
  • TOEFL Exam Score (for international applicants)

Prerequisite Courses

Applicants must complete prerequisite coursework from an accredited college or university. Prerequisite courses are required to be completed by the start term of the program, not by the application deadline. It is required that completed courses have a grade of a C or better.

International Applicants

International applicants are eligible to apply to the PhD program. International applicants do not receive financial assistance for the program and should be prepared to finance their education at Columbia Nursing.
