Publications:

Eileen Carter, PhD, assistant professor, and Elaine Larson, PhD, Anna C. Maxwell Professor of Nursing Research and associate dean of scholarship and research, were among the authors of “Exploring the Nurses’ Role in Antibiotic Stewardship: A Multisite Qualitative Study of Nurses and Infection Preventionists,” published in American Journal of Infection Control.

Eileen Carter, PhD, assistant professor, and William G. Greendyke, MD, assistant professor of medicine, CUIMC, were among the authors of “Exploring the Role of the Bedside Nurse in Antimicrobial Stewardship: Survey Results from Five Acute-Care Hospitals,” published in Infection Control & Hospital Epidemiology.

Tonda L. Hughes, PhD, and Cindy Veldhuis, PhD, postdoctoral research fellow, published “Comparing Substance Use and Mental Health Outcomes among Sexual Minority and Heterosexual Women in Probability and Non-Probability Sample,” published in Drug and Alcohol Dependence.

Arlene Smaldone, PhD, professor and assistant dean of scholarship and research; Sally Findley, professor of population and family health and sociomedical sciences, CUIMC; Haomiao Jia, PhD, associate professor of biostatistics; and Nancy Green, MD, professor of pediatrics, CUIMC, were among the authors of “HABIT, a Randomized Feasibility Trial to Increase Hydroxyurea Adherence, Suggests Improved Health-Related Quality of Life in Youths with Sickle Cell Disease,” published in Journal of Pediatrics.

Presentations:

Cindy Veldhuis, PhD, postdoctoral research fellow, presented the following: “‘Roughly Half the Country Sees Me and My Wife as Less Than Human’: The Effects of the 2016 Presidential Election on LBTQ Individuals,” at an annual education conference hosted by the Alpha Zeta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, Honor Society of Nursing, held at Columbia Nursing; “‘I Worry for the Queers That Don’t Pass as Hetero’: The Effects of the 2016 Presidential Election on LBTQ Individuals,” as participant in the LGBT Health Series, Division of Gender, Sexuality, and Health, Department of Psychiatry, at Columbia University; and “Effects of Sexual Violence on LGBTQ Individuals,” as part of a panel titled “Confronting Sexual Violence in LGBTQ Community and Beyond,” held at the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University.

Briefs:

Paul Coyne ’13 ’15 ’16, DNP, a member of the Board of Visitors at Columbia Nursing, is now the Senior Director, Clinical Informatics and Advanced Practice Nursing at Hospital for Special Surgery.
