Bendixen Professor of International Nursing; and Nour Makarem, PhD, CUIMC, postdoctoral research fellow, were the authors of “Cardiovascular Disease Disparities in Sexual Minority Adults: An Examination of the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (2014–2016),” published in the American Journal of Health Promotion.
Maureen George, PhD, associate professor; Haomiao Jia, PhD, associate professor of biostatistics; Allison Norful ’17, PhD, postdoctoral research fellow; Lusine Poghosyan, PhD, associate professor; and Jean-Marie Bruzzese, PhD, associate professor, were among the authors of “Shared Decision-Making in the BREATHE Asthma Intervention Trial: A Research Protocol,” published in the Journal of Advanced Nursing.
Caroline Handschuh, PhD student; Allison LaCross ’11 ’12 ’14, DNP, assistant professor of clinical nursing; and Arlene Smaldone ’03, PhD, professor, and assistant dean of scholarship and research, were the authors of “Is Sexting Associated with Sexual Behaviors During Adolescence? A Systematic Literature Review and Meta-Analysis,” published in the Journal of Midwifery and Women’s Health.
Brenda Janotha ’08, EdD, assistant professor, was among the authors of “Improving Herpes Zoster Vaccine Rates: The Impact of a Targeted Educational Program,” published in the Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
Theresa Koleck, PhD, associate research scientist, was among the authors of “Downstream TRPM4 Polymorphisms Are Associated with Intracranial Hypertension and Statistically Interact with ABCC8 Polymorphisms in a Prospective Cohort of Severe Traumatic Brain Injury,” published in the Journal of Neurotrauma.
Theresa Koleck, PhD, associate research scientist; Niurka Suero-Tejeda, MS, project manager; and Suzanne Bakken, PhD, Alumni Professor of Nursing and Professor of Biomedical Informatics, were the authors of “The Influence of Latino Symptom Experience on Participation in Usual Activities and Satisfaction With Participation in Social Roles,” published in Hispanic Health Care International.
Nancy Reame, PhD, Mary Dickey Lindsay Professor Emerita of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, was the author of “The Legacy of Tampon-Related Toxic Shock Syndrome: Feats, Failures and Future Challenges for Women’s Health Scholars,” published in Women’s Reproductive Health. Reame was also among the authors of “Postmenopausal Hormone Treatment Alters Neural Pathways But Does Not Improve Verbal Cognitive Function,” published in Menopause.
Rebecca Schnall ’09, PhD, Mary Dickey Lindsay Associate Professor of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, was among the authors of “Adaptation of a Group-Based HIV Risk Reduction Intervention to a Mobile App For Young Sexual Minority Men,” published in AIDS Education and Prevention.

Adriana Arcia, PhD, assistant professor, and Samantha Stonbraker ’13 ’16, PhD, associate research scientist, received a Distinguished Poster Award at the American Medical Informatics Association’s 2018 Annual Symposium, in San Francisco, California.
Billy Caceres, PhD, postdoctoral research fellow, received honorable mention for the Charles E. Gibbs Leadership Prize from Women’s Health Issues.
Jacqueline Merrill ’98 ’06, PhD, professor, was one of the recipients of the Harriet H. Werley Award bestowed at the American Medical Informatics Association’s 2018 Annual Symposium, in San Francisco, California.
Carolyn Sun ’15, PhD, associate research scientist, was elected to the leadership team for the American Medical Informatics Association Nursing Informatics Working Group and will serve as Co-Member at Large.

Rogers Professor of Nursing, and senior associate dean of academic affairs and dean of students; Jennifer Dohrn ’85 ’05, DNP, associate professor; and Susan Doyle-Lindrud ’94 ’08, DNP, associate professor, and assistant dean of academic affairs, presented “Advanced Practice Nurse Competencies in Latin American Countries,” at the II Jornada Internacional de Pós-Graduação em Enfermagem, in São Paolo, Brazil.
Lisa Iannacci-Manasia ’77 ’89, MS, instructor, presented “Pediatric Primary Care: Health Promotion and Disease Prevention in Children and Adolescents,” for the course, titled Pediatric Primary Care: Principles and Practice, in Turin, Italy. Iannacci-Manasia currently holds a visiting professorship at the University of Turin.

Wanda Montalvo ’15, PhD, assistant professor and executive director of Jonas Nursing and Veterans Healthcare, was named a 2018 Fellow of the New York Academy of Medicine.
Susan Papera ’76 was honored at a fundraiser gala for the Health and Hospitals/North Central Bronx Auxiliary. Her award commemorated her longstanding commitment to the healthcare organizations and the community they serve.
Vicky Tiase ’06 and Sarah Collins ’09, PhD, assistant professor of biomedical informatics and nursing, were inducted as inaugural Fellows of the class of 2018 for the Applied Informatics Recognition Program, which was launched by the American Medical Informatics Association. The Fellows, known as FAMIA, were inducted for their accomplishments and achievements in the application of informatics.
