Kellie Bryant presented “Pathways in Nurse Education” at the NY State Action Coalition’s first annual Breaking Down Barriers, Opening Doors, Changing Lives, Increasing Diversity in Nursing pre-nursing conference held virtually on November 19, 2021.

Marie Carmel Garcon presented “Televisit for the Elderly: Advantages and Challenges” at the Third Indian Nurse Practitioner Association of America Nursing National Conference held in Orangeburg, New York, on November 6, 2021.

Honors/Awards

PhD student April Ancheta was elected student chair of the American Public Health Association LGBTQ Health Caucus.

Veronica Barcelona received the International Society of Nurses in Genetics Founders' Award, established in 1996 to honor individual ISONG members who have demonstrated excellence in genomic nursing education, research, or service.

Veronica Barcelona is the recipient of a two year award, funded for $150,000, to use machine learning to measure racial/ethnic bias in obstetric settings. The goal of the project titled “Using Machine Learning to Measure Racial/Ethnic Bias in Obstetric Settings,” is to examine the association between linguistic bias and pregnancy-related morbidity among birthing people from 2017-2019 at two hospitals.

Billy Caceres and Suzanne Bakken won a Paper of the Year award from the American Journal of Health Promotion for their manuscript titled, “Sexual Identity and Racial/Ethnic Differences in Awareness of Heart Attack and Stroke Symptoms: Findings from the National Health Interview Survey.”

Amanda Hessels was one of seven New Jersey nurses inducted into the American Academy of Nursing as cited in the January 22, 2022, issue of New Jersey Nurse.

Clare Cardo McKegney, DNP ’08, was named among the NJ Favorite Kids’ Docs 2021 by New Jersey Family magazine.

Komal Murali is the recipient of the 2022 Emerging Leaders Award from the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association.

Karol DiBello was appointed the editor of ViewPoint, the national publication of the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing.

Research by Tonda Hughes was featured as a vignette titled, “Overcoming Disparities to Achieve Gender Equity,” in the 10th edition of the nursing research textbook Nursing Research: Methods and Critical Appraisal for Evidence-Based Practice.
