The Science of Health Promotion and Disease Prevention
Promoting an optimum level of wellness and decreasing disease/injury are significant contributions professional nursing can make to individuals and society. In addition, this is a collaborative effort between the consumer and the health care provider. Recognizing that wellness and health can be achieved even in the presence of certain conditions (birth defects, chronic conditions) is an important philosophical starting point for the advanced practice nurse. It is the goal of nursing to promote health and optimal functioning.
