#10: Meet our students - Hannah
Posted September 2024
🌟Meet #ColumbiaNursing student Hannah Maebelle Apostol 🌟
Hannah shares why she chose Columbia Nursing:
I chose Columbia Nursing because we are dedicated to advocating for individuals who are perpetually marginalized from the fundamental human right of health care. I strive to serve these folks, specifically women of color and the LGBTQIA+ communities, as a future leader, educator, and clinician through safe and inclusive care.

#5: Mother's Day/Nurse’s Day
Posted May 2024
On this #MothersDay and #InternationalNursesDay, we celebrate the mother of modern nursing Florence Nightingale on her birthday and recognize her work to establish nursing as a profession for educated women by advocating for all patients and working for reform in health administration, poor law legislation, public health, and Army medical services.
As a political activist, Nightingale engaged in extensive lobbying to convince leaders to implement progressive social reforms on health care for all. #NursesWeek

#3: Pinning Ceremony
Posted August 2024
Our MDE students received an updated pin at this month’s pinning ceremony, a long-held tradition that signifies their preparedness to enter the practice of nursing. The pins were presented by our faculty as well as some of the students’ loved ones who are also nurses.
The modern tradition of pins and the pinning ceremony date back to the 1860s, when Florence Nightingale was awarded the Red Cross of St. George in recognition of her tireless service during the Crimean War.
#2: Dean Frazier with CUIMC
Posted October 2024
Join #ColumbiaNursing Dean Frazier, PhD, as she bravely shares her journey from her #breastcancer diagnosis to survivorship and highlights the significance of updated FDA mammogram guidelines for those with dense breasts.
“The gift to all of us today is that you will be notified if you have dense breasts, you will be notified. The #FDA suggests now that the provider and patient both be notified within 30 days that you may need additional testing because it can be harder to identify cancer in women with dense breasts on mammograms”
