Columbia Nursing Receives Award from the Greater New York City - Black Nurses Association, Inc

Columbia University School of Nursing received the “Presidents Organizational Support Award” from the Greater New York City - Black Nurses Association, Inc (a chapter of the National Black Nurses Association, Inc) for the school’s leadership role in supporting the chapter. 

Underserved Students Learn about Nursing & Sim Center

The award was presented at the chapter’s first annual Scholarship and Awards Brunch on Saturday, June 15, at Antun’s in Queens Village, New York. Columbia Nursing has worked with the Greater New York City - Black Nurses Association, Inc in a number of ways, including partnering with the chapter to provide an enriching educational experience to underserved students from a public school in the Bronx, encouraging students of color to enter the nursing profession. Columbia Nursing hosted the students and showed them the school’s innovative, state-of-the-art simulation center, one of the largest dedicated to nursing education in New York State.

“Friends of Nursing Award”

In addition to the school receiving the “Presidents Organizational Support Award,” Vivian Taylor, EdD, associate dean for diversity and cultural affairs, was a recipient of the “Friends of Nursing Award” for her work at the school. Taylor’s work includes addressing health disparities and health literacy in the community and promoting individuals from under-represented groups to join health professions, such as nursing.
