Drs. Byrne and Goshin quoted in the press on recent study that they co-authored

Stone Foundation and Elise D. Fish Professor in Clinical Health Care for the Underserved Mary Byrne, PhD, and Associate Research Scientist Lorie Goshin, PhD, were quoted recently in articles about Drew House, a Brooklyn supportive housing facility that serves as an alternative to incarceration for mothers charged with felonies, allowing them to live with their children. Drs. Byrne and Goshin, both of Columbia's Center for Children and Families, co-authored a study on Drew House that was released on September 22. They used ethnographic methods to evaluate the program and to assess criminal justice, family, and housing outcomes. They found that allowing participants to remain in the community with their children strengthened these families without negatively affecting public safety and recommended that the program be scaled up and replicated.
