Adriana Arcia, PhD, assistant professor, was the lead author of "Sometimes More Is More: Iterative Participatory Design of Infographics for Engagement of Community Members with Varying Levels of Health Literacy," published in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association. Other faculty member authors include:

Janice Bistritz, DNP, instructor, was the lead author of "Therapeutic Hypothermia in Children after Cardiac Arrest,” published in Journal of Pediatric Emergency Care.

 

Stephen Ferrara, DNP, associate dean of clinical affairs, was the lead author of “Latent Tuberculosis Infection and Treatment in a Healthcare Worker,” published in The Nurse Practitioner.

 

Arlene Smaldone, PhD, assistant dean for scholarship and research, was the senior author of “Does Diabetes Self- Management Education in Conjunction With Primary Care Improve Glycemic Control in Hispanic Patients?” published in The Diabetes Educator.

 

Presentations and Honors

Dawn Dowding, PhD, professor, was appointed a member of the Biomedical Computing and Health Informatics Study Section, Center for Scientific Review.

 

Haomiao Jia, PhD, associate professor, presented “Impact of Smoking, Physical Inactivity, Heavy Drinking, and Obesity on Quality-Adjusted Life Expectancy among Adults With and Without Depression,” at the CDC 2015 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System conference.

 

Amanda Hessels, PhD, postdoctoral research fellow, received the Heros Implementation Research Scholar Award award from the Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC).  

 

Jeffrey Kwong, DNP, Director, Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner program, presented “ELINC: Partnering Together, Promoting Wellness, and Creating Change for LGBT Older Adults,” at the 2015 Aging Summit in Washington, DC.

 

Nurse Midwifery faculty members Laura Zeidenstein, DNP, associate professor; Rebekah Ruppe, DNP, assistant professor, and Maria Corsaro, DNP, assistant professor, presented “Narrative Story Telling: Integrating Experiences and Student Self-Knowledge at the American College of Nurse Midwives Annual Meeting.

 

Cliff Roberson, DNP, Nurse Anesthesia program director, and Maria Corsaro, DNP, assistant professor,  presented “Inter-Specialty Obstetrical Emergency Simulation Training in Midwifery Education,” at the American College of Nurse Midwives Annual Meeting.

 

Laura Zeidenstein, DNP, Nurse Midwifery program director, was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Nurse Midwives.

Columbia Nursing welcomed four new faculty members:  Karol DiBello, DNP, assistant professor;  Darylann Ficken, DNP, assistant professor, Maureen George, PhD, associate professor; and Debra Miller-Saultz, DNP, assistant professor.

 

Elizabeth Cohn ’09 was named a White House Precision Medicine Champion of Change.

 

Francisco Diaz ’03 '05, adjunct professor of nursing at Bellevue Hunter College School of Nursing and Gerontological Nurse Practitioner at St. Barnabas Hospital in the Bronx, presented on advanced practice nursing at the National Association of Hispanic Nurses (NAHN) conference .
