Grants

Mary Byrne, PhD, Stone Foundation & Fish Professor of Health Care for the Underserved, received a $25,000  grant from the Sills Family Foundation for her research on “Shared Healthy Alliances for Reflective Parenting (SHARP) Program: Training and Trial.”

 

The school received a $50,000 grant from the Milbank Foundation for Rehabilitation. 

Publications

FNP alumni Marie Castronovo, ShaKhira Evans, and Amy Pullizzi authored “Nurse Bullying: A Review And A Proposed Solution,” in Nursing Outlook

 

Tracy Andrews, DNP, assistant professor, authored a chapter in “Cardiac Surgery Essentials for Critical Care Nursing.”

 

Presentations and Honors

Felesia Bowen '10 co-authored an abstract "Cultivating and Sustaining a Diverse Nursing Workforce: A Plan for Nursing's Future," that was accepted to Sigma Theta Tau’s International’s 43rd Biennial Convention.

 

Amanda Hessels, PhD, postdoctoral research fellow, presented “National Testing of the Nursing-Kids Intensity of Care Survey,” and “The Role of Safety Culture in Pediatric Long Term Care Settings,” at the Pediatric Complex Care Association Annual Meeting.

 

 

Rita Marie John, EdD, associate professor, presented “Patient Safety Issues in Ambulatory Setting and Use of Informatics in Patient Care,” at the 5th National and 2nd International Mediterranean Pediatric Nursing Congress in Ankara, Turkey; and “Time Management 2015,” at the Federation of Nurses/UFT’s Professional Issues Conference.

 

 

Jeffrey Kwong, DNP, Program Director, Adult-Gerontology Primary Care & HIV Sub Specialty, presented “Scaling Up HIV PrEP: How HIV Nurses' Knowledge, Attitudes, Behaviors Impact PreP Implementation,” at the National HIV Prevention Conference.

 

Elaine Larson, PhD, associate dean for research, received the Hygiene award from the Rudolf Schülke Foundation. Larson is the first nurse to receive this honor. The foundation presents this award to scientists who have solved specific problems in the area of hygiene, microbiology and preventative medicine.

 

Andrew Phillips PhD '12 was awarded a one year post doctoral research fellowship in Columbia Nursing’s Laboratory for Informatics, Complexity and Organizational Study (LICOS).  LICOS is directed by Jacqueline Merrill, PhD, associate professor of Nursing (in Biomedical Informatics).   Phillips' fellowship was awarded by Massachusetts General Hospital, where he is an assistant professor of informatics in the Institute of the Health Professions.  Phillips' project "Use of an Adaptive Agent-Based Model in Evaluating Patient Preferences in Healthcare" received a "2015 Distinguished Poster Award" at the Annual Symposium of the American Medical Informatics Association.
