Grants

Jacqueline Merrill, PhD, MPH, RN, associate professor of nursing in biomedical informatics, is co-investigator in the “Region II Public Health Training Center,” a $675,000 award from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to support the training needs of the public health workforce, among which public health nurses are the largest professional group. The principal investigator is Marita Murrman, EdD, associate professor, Mailman School of Public Health.

 

Yamnia Cortes, PhD candidate, received a $1,000 funding award from the Alpha Zeta chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International towards her dissertation research: “Biobehavioral Risk Correlates of Bone Loss and Cardiovascular Disease in HIV-infected and Uninfected Postmenopausal Minority Women.”

Publications

Robert Lucero, PhD, RN, assistant professor, was the lead author of “Benefits and Risks in Secondary Use of Digitized Data: Views of Community Members Living in a Predominately Ethnic Minority Urban Neighborhood,” published in AJOB Empirical Bioethics. Other authors include Joan Kearney, PhD, APRN, assistant professor; Yamnia Cortes, PhD candidate; and Adriana Arcia, PhD, RN, assistant professor.

Presentations and Honors

Two Columbia Nursing postdoctoral research fellows presented at the first annual Columbia University Postdoc Research Symposium: Amanda Hessels, PhD, MPH, RN, presented “Impact of Health Information Technology  on the Delivery and Quality of Patient Care,” and Sarah Iribarren, PhD, RN, presented “Scale-Up Considerations of a mHealth Intervention to Support Patients with Active Tuberculosis.”

 

Mary O’Neil Mundinger, DrPh, Dean Emerita, and Edward M. Kennedy Professor of Health Policy, presented at TEDMED CUMC.

 

Felesia Renee McCovery Bowen '10, assistant professor, Rutgers School of Nursing, received the Lieberman Humanism in Healthcare Award from the Healthcare Foundation of New Jersey.

 

Nancy Reame, PhD, RN, Mary Dickey Lindsay Professor of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, moderated and presented the symposium “Multi-Level Strategies for Building Interdisciplinarity within the CTSAs (Clinical & Translational Science Award Programs)” at the 2014 State of the Science Conference of the Council on the Advancement of Nursing Science in Washington, DC. Elizabeth Cohn, PhD, RN, adjunct assistant professor, was a co-presenter of “Enhancing CTSA Community-Engagement and Research Capacity through Partnerships with Schools of Nursing.

Tracy Andrews, DNP, MSN, RN ’10 is program director, Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program.

 

Brenda Barrowclough Brodie ’65 and Sally Shipley Stone ’69 hosted a brunch event in Portland, Maine with Dean Berkowitz. 

 

Brenda Janotha ’08 joined the Columbia Nursing faculty as assistant professor.
