Melissa Beauchemin, PhD ’19, presented “Integrating Local Context into Larger-Scale Efforts to Improve Cancer Care Delivery for Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Survivors” at the Center for Young Adult Cancer Survivorship Research Forum, held virtually on May 13, 2026. 

Christian Cansino, DNP ’17, presented “Evaluating Knowledge-Tracing Guided Machine Learning for Didactic Nurse Anesthesia Education” at the AANA (American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology) EDGE event, on February 5, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky, and  “Mitochondria and Mutations: ND4 Variants in Patients of Maternal Venezuelan Descent” at the NARA (Nurse Anesthesiology Resident Association) Spring Conference on April 11, 2026, in New York. 
 
Jeanne Churchill presented “Difficult Ethical Cases in Pediatrics” at the workshop  “Health in Times of Crisis,” held as part of Columbia University Irving Medical Center’s Interprofessional Education Day on April 7, 2026. 

Kristy Deyeso co-presented “Beyond the Manikin: Leveraging AI to Revolutionize Nursing Simulation Curriculum Design” and moderated the plenary session at the 62nd Annual Isabel Maitland Stewart Conference on Research in Nursing, held at Teachers College on May 1, 2026. 

Juan Gonzalez presented “Ctrl+Alt+Sim: Rebooting Simulation Education with AI and ITS Tools” at the AI@VPS&S 2026 Showcase on April 28, 2026, at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. 
 
Natalya Pasklinsky presented “Innovative Interactive AI Columbia Nursing Global App” at Columbia University’s aiX Faculty Fellows Public Showcase at Butler Library on May 5, 2026. 
 

Awards 

Christian Cansino, DNP ’17, received an Early Career Alumni Award: Emerging Nurse Leader. 

Hwayoung Cho, PhD ’17, received a Distinguished Alumni Award for Nursing Research.  

Tonda L. Hughes received the inaugural Sigma/DAISY Nurse Scientist Leadership Award from Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma) and the DAISY Foundation on May 7, 2026. 

Christine McMorrow Mironenko, MS ’13, received an Early Career Alumni Award: Emerging Nurse Leader.  

Mary Moran, MS ’08, was honored with a Distinguished Alumni Award, In Memoriam, for Lifetime Achievement. 

Ashley Graham Perel, EdD, a 2021 graduate of Teachers  College, Columbia University, received the Nursing Education Award and was inducted into the Teachers College Nursing Education Alumni Association's Hall of Fame. The award celebrates alumni recognized by peers and students as transformative educators who have excelled in leadership, curriculum design, innovative teaching methodologies, or academic accreditation. 

Jinjiao Wang, PhD ’15, received a Distinguished Alumni Award for Nursing Research. 

Sunmoo Yoon, PhD ’11, received a Distinguished Alumni Award for Nursing Research. 
 

Other News 

Kathleen Broglio has been appointed associate professor of medicine at Dartmouth Geisel School of Medicine, the first DNP to receive this status, for her scholarly work in clinical practice. 

Christian Cansino, DNP ’17, led a group of three Columbia Nursing CRNA students on medical mission in Romblon, Philippines, in February 2026, in collaboration with the GC Rivera Foundation. The team provided regional anesthesia for general and gynecologic surgery, filling a significant gap in access to quality surgery and anesthesia care.  

Center for Community-Engaged Health Informatics and Data Science (CCHIDS) members So Hyeon BangMadison HortonAfra Shamnath, and Ruth Masterson Creber participated in the VP&S AI Showcase on April 28, 2026, presenting innovative demos and engaging with faculty, trainees, and staff working at the intersection of AI and medicine.  

Donna Drucker was invited to "Thriving Through Change: A Women's Health Conversation," an event sponsored by Bayer and The Atlantic magazine to discuss contraception, menopause, and hot flashes in particular, held on April 30, 2026. Articles are forthcoming in issues of The Atlantic on each of these topics. Drucker was invited because of her previous scholarship on health history, specifically her book Contraception: A Concise History, published by MIT Press in 2020.
