Nursing and University Commencement

Dear Nursing 2020 Graduates,

Thank you to all who responded to our Graduation Survey last week. We received a high response rate, and the survey provided us clarity on two things. First, the majority of our expected nursing graduates are currently working or volunteering in COVID-19 efforts. Secondly, the overwhelming majority of our graduates wish to wait and only celebrate when it is safe to do so at an in-person nursing graduation ceremony.

I am writing to confirm that Columbia Nursing plans to hold our Nursing Graduation Ceremony 2020 at a future date, when it is safe to do so in-person with family and friends present. We will continue to monitor COVID-19 closely. When we are able to begin planning for a safe event on campus in the Fall/Winter, we will share information on a nursing graduation date/time.

Update on University Commencement (Morningside ceremony): The university invites all 2020 graduates to come together virtually on Wednesday, May 20, at 11:00 a.m. EST for official degree conferral. More details are forthcoming. Students will not need academic regalia for virtual University Commencement.

We are proud and grateful for our Columbia Nursing students and graduates who are already working to make a difference in the lives of those affected by this pandemic. We hope that you and your loved ones remain well, and look forward to seeing you at Nursing Graduation 2020!

Best,
