Patricia L. Riley '76 to receive Hasselmeyer Award for Research Initiatives

Captain Patricia L. Riley '76 will receive the Hasselmeyer Award for Research Initiatives in recognition of the innovative and groundbreaking global human resources information systems (HRIS) she co-developed and implemented in sub-Saharan Africa. A nurse-midwife serving as team lead for the CDC's Health Systems and Human Resources unit, Captain Riley has been instrumental in the Kenya HRIS project's success. Her team includes medical epidemiologists, health scientists, nurses, and public health policy experts who implement programs funded by the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). The system she helped design and implement is the most comprehensive health workforce information system in Africa and has contributed to evidence-based science in human resources for health (HRH). Her efforts were recognized earlier this year with the World Health Organization's and Global Health Workforce Alliance's Award for Excellence.

The Hasselmeyer Award for Research Initiatives is presented by the United States Public Health Service for exemplary leadership resulting in noteworthy accomplishments in conducting nursing research and clinical investigation which stimulates the development of new knowledge and practice in nursing and/or health professions.
