Patricia Stone is Appointed New Editor of AJIC

The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) has appointed Columbia Nursing’s Patricia Stone, PhD, RN as editor of APIC’s peer-reviewed journal, the American Journal of Infection Control (AJIC). Stone assumes the role from Columbia Nursing’s very own Elaine Larson, PhD, RN, who retired and stepped down as editor at the end of 2019. Larson served as the editor of AJIC since 1995.

In a statement issued from APIC, APIC 2019 President Karen Hoffmann, RN, MS, CIC, FSHEA, FAPIC said “APIC is thrilled to welcome Dr. Stone as editor of AJIC. Her research has informed policies that have strengthened the role of the infection preventionist and established the importance of investing in infection prevention and control programs. We look forward to her tenure with the journal and her vision for AJIC’s future.”

In 2017, Stone was awarded APIC’s Distinguished Scientist Award which is given to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the science of infection prevention and control as determined by the APIC Research Committee.

According to Stone, “I am very honored to be taking on this important responsibility. I look forward to being a good steward of AJIC and publishing cutting edge research that will help the profession of infection prevention control professionals.”
