Awards and Honors

  • Gregory Alexander was awarded the 2021 Midwestern Nursing Research Society’s (MNRS) Health Systems, Policy, and Informatics (HSPI) Research Interest Group’s (RIG) Senior Investigator Award by the Midwestern Nursing Research Society.
  • Billy Caceres and Kasey Jackman ’17 are the recipients of a Seed Funding Award from the Columbia University Data Science Institute for their study titled, “mHealth-Based Data Science Approach to Examine the Association of Minority Stressors with Sleep Health in Black and/or Latinx Sexual and Gender Minority Adults.” This one-year study, funded for $75,000, will use data science techniques to leverage consumer sleep technology and ecological momentary assessments to study sleep health in Black and Latinx sexual and gender minority adults.
  • Amanda Hessels served as a contributor/co-author to the International Safety Center’s Sharps Injury Prevention Stakeholder Group (2020) publication, Moving the Sharps Safety in Healthcare Agenda Forward in the United States: 2020 Consensus Statement and Call to Action. She also served as an invited international expert participant in “Strengthening tRansparent Reporting of reseArch on uNfinished Nursing CARE―RANCARE Reporting Guideline Delphi Study,” presented by the University of Basel, Switzerland, and Cyprus University of Technology, Cyprus.
  • Nancy King Reame was credentialed by the Florida Medical Reserve Corps to serve as a nurse-volunteer and assist with the COVID vaccinations in Broward County, Florida.
  • Jingjing Shang is the recipient of an Intramural Pilot Grant award funded by the Columbia School of Nursing Office of Scholarship & Research Development (OSR) for her study titled, “Development and Testing of the Palliative Care Related Knowledge, Attitudes, and Confidence in Home Health Care (PC-KAC in HHC) Questionnaires.” This one-year study, funded for $10,000, aims to address the rising need for palliative care in home health care (HHC) due to the complex patient population and incentives to avoid rehospitalization.
  • Jiyoun Song ’20 is the recipient of an Intramural Pilot Grant award funded by the Columbia School of Nursing Office of Scholarship & Research Development (OSR) for her study titled, “MC-ICON (Clinical Meaningful Concept In Communication.” This one-year study, funded for $7,300, will allow Song to team with her mentor, Maxim Topaz, to extend earlier and ongoing data science methods and explore a previously untapped large and potentially very informative data source: verbal communication between home health care (HHC) nurses and patients.
