Presentations

  • Gregory Alexander virtually presented “The Expansion of Digital Maturity and Quality in U.S. Residential Care Facilities” at the forum titled Responding to Royal Commission Recommendation 68- Universal Adoption of Digital Technology and My Health Record, for the International Forum of the Australian Aged Care Industry Information Technology Council on April 27, 2021.
  • Billy Caceres presented “Assessing and Addressing Cardiovascular Health in LGBTQ+ Adults” during a virtual meeting for the American Stroke Association on April 26, 2021. Caceres also presented “LGBTQ+ Policies: Health Implications and Future Directions” at a virtual meeting for Lister Hill Center for Health Policy at the University of Alabama on April 7, 2021. Lastly, Caceres presented “Addressing Social Determinants of Health in LGBTQ+ Populations” at a virtual meeting of the National Student Nurses’ Association, held on April 9, 2021.
  • Marlene McHugh ’08 was a member of a panel that presented “An Unfamiliar Pandemic: Impact on the Frontline and Our Health Systems” at the Evidence-Based Guidelines Affecting Policy, Practice, and Stakeholders IV (E-GAPPS IV) COVID-19 and the Challenge to Guidance conference hosted virtually by the New York Academy of Medicine on March 23, 2021. McHugh also presented “The Role of the Advanced Practice Nurse in the Hospital Setting” at a conference titled What We Have Learned from COVID-19: The Need for Advanced Practice Nurses in Health Care, co-hosted by the Pan American Health Organization and the World Health Organization, on March 30, 2021.

Honors/Awards

  • Billy Caceres was appointed to the Council on Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing’s Strategic Planning Workgroup at the American Heart Association. As a member of the workgroup, Caceres will participate in establishing the three-year strategic plan for the American Heart Association’s Council on Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing. Caceres was also appointed to the American Heart Association’s Presidential Task Force on Structural Racism. In this role, Caceres will provide guidance on the development of online courses aimed at educating health care professionals about structural racism.
  • Three Columbia Nursing students are recipients of awards from the Eastern Nursing Research Society Awards Committee: Yashika Sharma '20, conference scholarship; April Ancheta, 2nd place doctoral poster award; and Sarah Leonard, 1st place doctoral paper award.
  • DNP students Savannah King, Tori Ferland '19, and Sneha Sri Bathina won best student poster for “Vitamin D Supplementation as a Treatment Modality for PCOS” at the Western Institute of Nursing conference, held virtually April 14‒16, 2021.
