  • Billy Caceres presented “Challenges and Opportunities for Promoting the Cardiovascular Health of LGBTQ+ People,” at University of Michigan Cardiovascular Medicine Grand Rounds held virtually on Feb. 25, 2021. Additionally, Caceres presented “LGBTQ Cardiovascular Health: State of the Science and Future Directions,” at the American Heart Association Health Equity Discussion held virtually on Feb. 25, 2021. 
  • Jennifer Dohrn ’05 presented “Nurses on the Frontlines of Pandemics: Recommendations for Effective Response from the Ebola Epidemic in Sierra Leone and Liberia (2014–2016) and COVID‐19 Pandemic (2020),” at the CUSON-UICCON (Columbia University School of Nursing–University of Illinois at Chicago College of Nursing) Global Health Nursing Speaker Series hosted virtually on Feb. 23, 2021. 
  • Maureen George presented “Delivering Patient-Centered Care to Patients of Varied Cultural Backgrounds,” at the American Academy of Asthma, Allergy, and Immunology Annual Meeting held virtually on Feb. 26, 2021. Additionally, George presented “Evidence-Based Strategies for Improving Intentional and Unintentional Non-Adherence in Asthma and COPD,” at the Big Sky Pulmonary Conference held virtually on March 5, 2021. 
  • Komal Murali and Patricia Stone presented “A Qualitative Secondary Analysis of Triggers for Palliative Care Consultation in the ICU,” at Columbia and Cornell’s Bi-Campus Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program Quarterly Education Day held at Columbia University on March 11, 2021. 
  • Cindy Veldhuis gave a virtual presentation titled “Unprecedented Times Require Unprecedented Skills to Keep on Track: Boosting Motivation, Productivity, and Focus to Reduce Academia-Related Stress,” for the Scripps Polar Center at UC San Diego on March 3, 2021. Additionally, Veldhuis served as a panelist for the Research Society on Alcoholism Emerging Scholar Outreach Subcommittee K webinar hosted on Feb. 26, 2021. 

Awards/Honors 

  • Gregory Alexander and Rebecca Schnall have been selected as part of Sigma Nursing's 2021 International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame Inductees.
  • Adriana Arcia received a six-month grant supplement for $49,618 from the Alzheimer's Association through their RAPID program. The RAPID (Rapid Program in Dementia) grant is supplemental to an existing three-year grant ($149,938) titled “Validity of Functional Assessment Staging by Caregivers.” RAPID funds will be used to overcome participant recruitment challenges posed by COVID-19. 
  • Allison Norful ’17 was elected to the executive board as secretary for the Eastern Nursing Research Society. 
  • Cindy Veldhuis was invited to serve as editorial board member for the Journal of Trauma and Dissociation. 

Other News 

  • Nancy Reame served as a scientific screener for the annual Kavli Science Journalism Awards presented at the 2021 virtual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science on Feb. 9. The awards, open to journalists worldwide, recognize distinguished science reporting for a general audience.
