DNP, Nurse Anesthesia Profile: Oludayo Akinboboye

Oludayo Akinboboye

DNP Nurse Anesthesia ’25

I chose Columbia primarily because they offer a robust education grounded in clinical excellence, diversity, and leadership development.

Please tell us a bit about yourself; where are you from, and what do you like to do in your spare time?

My family comes from Nigeria; however I was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and raised in Newburgh, N.Y. I am the oldest of three, and we are all in the medical field! I like to play/watch basketball, travel, and hike in my spare time.

Why did you decide to pursue nursing, and why did you choose Columbia?

Prior to becoming a nurse, I was interested in physical therapy, but it was my mom who originally proposed nursing as a career. I started out as a certified nursing assistant in a nursing home, which ignited my passion for helping others through nursing. I chose Columbia primarily because they offer a robust education grounded in clinical excellence, diversity, and leadership development. The various clinical sites that the school offers allowed me to experience caring for diverse populations as well.

What are you passionate about, and how has being a student at Columbia Nursing allowed you to follow that passion?

I am passionate about helping others. This includes helping others through physical care within the hospital, educating others, and also mentorship. I would like to become part of a nurse anesthesia faculty in the future, and I was able to get a glimpse of that by being a teaching assistant for two semesters for Columbia’s nurse anesthesia program.

Do you have a favorite memory of your time at Columbia Nursing?

My favorite memory at Columbia was going on a mission trip to Honduras. I love traveling and helping others, and that trip was the perfect combo!

What are your next steps after graduation?

My next steps after graduation include passing boards, catching up on sleep, getting back in the gym, traveling, and getting married in July in Jamaica! I will be moving upstate with my fiancée as she begins her journey through CRNA school.
