Overview

Jihye Kim Scroggins, PhD, RN is a postdoctoral research fellow at the School of Nursing, T32 Reducing Health Disparities Through Informatics (RHeaDI) program. She earned her Ph.D. in Nursing from Duke University in 2023. Her primary research area has been focused on improving our understanding of postpartum symptom clusters using advanced statistical methods. Her dissertation research, funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research (1F31NR020572), was focused on examining multi-level social determinants of health that are associated with postpartum symptom typologies among racial-ethnically diverse birthing individuals. Broadly, her research interests include illuminating complex pathways between diverse factors (e.g., clinical, biological, and social determinants of health) and perinatal health disparities using data science. In particular, she is interested in stigmatizing and discriminating perinatal experiences and developing equitable prediction algorithms for adverse perinatal outcomes using natural language processing and machine learning.
