Lenape Land Acknowledgment

Columbia Nursing acknowledges the Lenape people and their ancestral lands, which include the site in Washington Heights where the school sits today.

In honor of the Lenape tribe, and in commitment to resist powers that have stolen not only land from the Lenape and other Indigenous people but also the rights of all disenfranchised people to control their own lives, the school has developed the following land acknowledgement statement. Intended as a call to raise awareness of the structural racism that disenfranchises people from Indigenous and all minority groups, the statement is read at all of Columbia Nursing’s major events to honor the Lenape in perpetuity.

We invite you to honor the Lenape with us and join us in our commitment to work towards social justice by unearthing and correcting inequities of all marginalized people to the best of our ability.
