Students Present Award-Winning Research at ENRS

At the Eastern Nursing Research Society’s annual conference, Doctor of Nursing Practice student Noor Begum received second place for a school-selected DNP poster, and PhD student Jiaojiao Wright was awarded third place for a PhD paper. 

 

Dementia-Detecting AI Tool Wins National Institute on Aging Prizes

Assistant Professor Maryam Zolnoori, PhD, and her team received two national honors from the National Institute on Aging’s PREPARE Challenge for their groundbreaking work using speech to detect early cognitive impairment.   

 

Meet Columbia Nursing's 2025 Campbell Award Winner

Columbia Nursing Shermin Koh

Shermin Koh received the Campbell Award, given annually to a graduating student at each Columbia University school for “exceptional leadership and Columbia spirit.” She also received a Presidential Award for Outstanding Teaching, the first graduate student instructor from Columbia Nursing to be honored.

Two Columbia Nursing Faculty profiles

Associate Professor Ana Kelly, PhD, and Professor Jacquelyn Taylor, PhD, were recognized for their exceptional achievements and service at Columbia University’s Commencement this year.  Kelly received a 2025 Presidential Award for Outstanding Teaching, and Professor Jacquelyn Taylor, PhD, received the 2025 Faculty Service Award, presented by the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement. 

 

Faculty, Alumni Named to AAN Class of Fellows

Leon Chen, DNP, an associate professor of nursing, and Bevin Cohen, MS ’17, assistant professor of clinical nursing, were inducted into the American Academy of Nursing’s 2025 Class of Fellows.

Columbia Nursing students Lizzet Carmona, Sergine Delma, and Marie Toupou  received scholarships from Nurses Educational Funds (NEF), Inc., for 2025-2026.

Columbia Nursing graduate students Tyler Gaedecke and Mahlon Mathieson participated in distinguished leadership initiatives offered through the Graduate Nursing Student Academy of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.   

 

Five from Columbia Nursing Inducted as NYAM Fellows

Four faculty and one postdoc from Columbia Nursing have joined the New York Academy of Medicine’s latest class of fellows. Professor Gregory Alexander, PhD, Assistant Professor Melissa Beauchemin, PhD ’19, Assistant Professor Ashley Graham-Perel, EdD, Assistant Professor Monica O’Reilly-Jacob, PhD, and postdoctoral research fellow Michele Flynch, PhD, were inducted at the 178th Anniversary Discourse, Annual Awards, and Meeting of the Fellows, held on December 1, 2025. 

 

American Heart Association Honors Turchioe, Kang

Columbia Nursing at the AHA Scientific Sessions 2025

At the American Heart Association (AHA) Scientific Sessions 2025, Assistant Professor Meghan Turchioe, PhD ’18, received the Marie Cowan Promising Early Career Investigator Award and postdoctoral research fellow Chloe Kang, PhD ’24, received an AHA Travel Award.
